In the pharmaceutical technology (formerly galenics) one is occupied with the production of various pharmaceutical

forms, for example tablets, pastilles or dragées. In these the desired active pharmaceutical ingredients are added.

In order to verify in regards to quality management that the desired amount of pharmaceutical ingredients was

added in a tablet, an element analysis is performed. Hereby the tablet is pulverised.

With the mortar mill Fritsch PULVERISETTE 2, 10-20 tablets are ground. In order for no ingredients to disappear due to the application of energy, the mortar mill is the proper choice. The grinding action of the pestle does not increase the temperature during the grinding process. The pharmaceutical ingredients remain constant. After a grinding duration of 1-5 minutes a homogenous powder is achieved with a particle size of < 100μm. Fritsch recommend grinding sets made of agate or hard porcelain. Even dragées or coated tablets may be ground. But here sometimes the coating is not ground perfectly.
