Radleys FindenserTM has been featured in the ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering Journal which reviews sustainability challenges in chemistry and advances the principles of Green Chemistry and Green Engineering.

The air condenser design, which does not require running water to operate, was developed by senior research scientists and engineers at AstraZeneca, who wanted to develop an effective air condenser to work with low boiling point solvents and reduce on-site water consumption. Water-cooled condensers typically use one to four litres of water per minute which just runs to waste.

The review of Findenser highlights that some chemists do not appreciate the amount of water wasted, mainly because they do not pay the utilities bill. There is however an acknowledgment of laboratory flooding and associated damage caused by leaking connections to water-cooled condensers.

Findenser comprises of a glass condenser with an external finned aluminium jacket, between which a small amount of water is permanently sealed. The design of the glass inner and finned aluminium jacket means Findenser has a much greater surface area and heat transfer capacity than a standard air condenser, making it effectively a ‘super air condenser’. Tests have shown that it can replace the need for water-cooled condensers in over 95% of common chemistry applications.

Radleys is internationally recognised as an innovation leader with a commitment to supporting chemical research in a safer, cleaner and more sustainable manner. They are delighted by the ACS review. Findenser offers a significant step forward to reduce consumption of a precious resource and eliminate the costs associated with water purchase and disposal.

Findenser can be used in vessels up to 2 litres with up to 1 litre of solvent. It comes with a variety of popular joint sizes
