Carl Zeiss Completes Mirax Product Portfolio

Apr 25 2008

Wide range of products for digital pathology Carl Zeiss has completed the MIRAX product portfolio for the production and storage of digitised histological and cytological slides. The MIRAX system, which includes all steps from image acquisition, digital storage and data management to online evaluations, simplifies workflows in pathology and offers
doctors and researchers new application possibilities.
MIRAX MIDI is a digital slide scanner which offers an innovation
in slide loading thanks to its particularly reliable horizontal loading system. Freshly cover-slipped slides and non-standard slides can be handled with ease. The possibility of loading up to 12 slides simultaneously ensures reasonable walk away time during the scanning procedure. Furthermore, MIRAX MIDI offers a fluorescence option and is therefore also ideal for immunofluorescence and FISH applications.
With MIRAX MICRO, Carl Zeiss offers the first digital slide system
based on the time-tested ZEISS AxioImager microscopes. This highly flexible system can be upgraded on a modular basis.
Furthermore, it permits digital slides to be produced using objectives with different magni- fications, making it ideal for both histological and cytological applications. MIRAX MICRO combines high speed with excellent image quality. When the optional SL-50 Slide Loader is used, up to 50 slides can be loaded.
The MIRAX Digital Slide Desktop is an advanced, Internet-based software solution for the display and management of digital slides, permitting digital slides to be archived, documented and accessed from any location. For example, it is easy to obtain second opinions, review histological slides or hold lectures over the Internet. The software has been particularly tailored to pathology and histology workflows. Its hallmarks are its high reliability, data security and intuitive operation.
The viewing and assessment of histological slides by several users is of major importance in both research and routine. The MIRAX LIVE systems make Carl Zeiss the only provider of digital slide solutions which also offers telepathology systems for realtime observation of slides, thus enabling users at different locations anywhere in the world to view the same slide and control the microscope over the Internet. For example, this allows doctors to make remote diagnoses or researchers to discuss their work online. In teaching, the often tedious
microscope sharing becomes a thing of the past thanks to the MIRAX LIVE systems.
