In 2011, Lanarkshire business man and entrepreneur Kevin Moore was awarded an OBE on the Queen’s Birthday Honours list. And during February the Strathchlyde University chemistry graduate and Scottish Life Sciences Association member built on his professional success when he received the award for Outstanding Contribution to the growth of Scottish Life Sciences at the 2012 Scottish Enterprise Life Sciences Awards.

With a career spanning almost 40 years, Kevin has been credited for his quiet, determined and hardworking nature, and has been instrumental in the creation of a number of new companies whose collective turnover now surpasses £20 million. He has lent his expertise to the development of many innovative spinouts, including Biopta Ltd and Syntropharma Ltd, both of which have made a big impression within the life sciences sector. Through the

launch of Scotlab Ltd, he has also provided many Scottish start-ups with invaluable support to allow them to grow and prosper.

But his enthusiasm is not limited to professional endeavours. Kevin is also a regular supporter of many of his local sports clubs and gives much of his time to fundraise for charities including The Bobath Centre, St Andrew’s Hospice, and Action Medical Research. “In 40 years of working in the Life Science community in Scotland I have never once woken up and not looked forward to my day ahead,” said Kevin. “I am totally committed to the success of the Life Science sector and to Scotland and therefore to receive the Outstanding Contribution to the Growth of Scottish Life Sciences is just beyond my wildest dreams.

“I would like to thank Scottish Enterprise and my colleagues within the industry for this recognition and more  importantly the way they have supported me over many years. One of my greatest pleasures is seeing the growth of new businesses and I am very fortunate to be Chairman of five of our smaller life science businesses and also, through Scottish Enterprise commercialisation, many of our outstanding developments from academia.”
