Shire plc, a global specialty biopharmaceutical business was named “Company of the Year” at the techMARK Awards 2011.

Organised by the London Stock Exchange, with lead sponsorship by PwC, the techMark Awards recognise businesses that “have outstanding long term growth potential, with a sound strategy in place to ensure successful

delivery of its commercial advantages and to build shareholder value”.

Angus Russell, Chief Executive Officer of Shire, said: “The receipt of the techMARK Company of the Year award is a  powerful recognition of the dedication of our employees around the world, of the excellent science that underpins our business and of our focus on the needs of patients, which lies at the heart of everything we do. We are delighted to receive this accolade from the London Stock Exchange.”

On behalf of the voting panel, Louise Minchin,BBC personality and Awards presenter, said: “The much coveted techMARK Company of the Year Award has gone to a very worthy winner in Shire. They set a wonderful example not just for the techMARK companies but also all technology companies in the UK. The Company’s revenue for the first six months of this year exceeded $2 billion for the first time as it continues on its journey from an ADHD company to a global speciality bio-pharma.”
