Vapourtec has unveiled the Peptide-Builder, a compact and fully automated benchtop peptide synthesiser, at TIDES Europe in Hamburg. Designed to maximise efficiency and minimise solvent consumption, the Peptide-Builder integrates Vapourtec’s innovative Variable Bed Flow Reactor (VBFR) technology.
Engineered with customer feedback in mind, the Peptide-Builder offers the smallest high-throughput solution on the market, enabling the production of more peptides per square meter while conserving reagents. Its flexible scale accommodates synthesis ranging from 0.05 mmol to 1 mmol, making it compatible with all resin types.
The system operates sequentially, synthesising a GLP-1 analogue in under four hours and up to 16 analogues over a weekend. The intuitive software, developed in collaboration with leading pharmaceutical companies, allows users to simply input sequences and resin amounts, press 'run,' and let the system handle the rest.
Reagent consumption is reduced to less than three equivalents of amino acids, while solvent use is kept below 80 ml per mmol per cycle. The system enables rapid and efficient solvent exchange for automated side-chain addition. At the conclusion of synthesis, it provides detailed insights, including aggregation analysis and Fmoc removal quantification, in a comprehensive final report.
Dr Manuel Nuño of Vapourtec commented: “The VBFR technology transforms peptide synthesis by enhancing efficiency, streamlining workflows, and minimising space requirements.”
