Sustainable cooling for refrigerated centrifuges

30 Jul, 2026

Ohaus Frontier™ 5000 Refrigerated Centrifuges are turning green. Ohaus has taken a significant step toward sustainability by transitioning the entire Frontier™ 5000 Series from the synthetic refrigerant R452A to R290, a natural, propane-based refrigerant with an exceptionally low Global Warming Potential (GWP ≈ 0.02).

This switch reduces the environmental impact of Ohaus refrigeration systems by over 99%, supporting the global “Green Lab” movement that is shaping modern laboratory standards. Beyond its low GWP, R290 also improves energy efficiency and cooling performance.

The upgrade applies to all models in the Frontier™ 5000 Refrigerated Centrifuge Series, ensuring consistent benefits across the range. Additionally, the sealed refrigerant system design guarantees safety during international shipping, including air freight.

Ohaus is the first manufacturer to offer a complete line of environmentally friendly refrigerated centrifuges, combining sustainability leadership with uncompromised performance. Turning Green with Every Spin
