Nitrosamines are highly toxic compounds that can enter the body through ingestion or skin adsorption.  It is now required that levels N-nitrosamines and N-nitrosatable substances in certain types of toys are accurately monitored as many cancers have been attributed to the exposure of nitrosamines or nitrosamine forming compounds. The new chemical requirements for toys under the EU Safety Directive 2009/48/EC came into force on the 20th July 2013

The Ellutia 800 Series Thermal Energy Analyser is one of the detectors specified as suitable for use in the EN 71-12:2013 Safety of toys N-Nitrosamines and N-nitrosatable substances directive.

The 800 Series Thermal Energy Analyser (TEA) has been an industry standard for nitrosamine analysis since its introduction thanks to its simple operation, low limits of detection, almost infinite selectivity for nitrogen containing compounds, and considerably lower cost than expensive HPLC-MS/MS or GC-MS/MS systems.  The 800 Series TEA can be interfaced with most common GCs.
