EpilepsyGTx has appointed Professor Dimitri Kullmann as Chief Scientific Officer, strengthening its leadership team as it advances gene therapy programmes for refractory epilepsy.
Professor Kullmann, a co-founder of the company, is a leading neurologist and neuroscientist at University College London, where he heads the Experimental Epilepsy group at the Institute of Neurology. He also has extensive clinical experience at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.
His research over more than three decades in synaptic transmission and neurological disease mechanisms contributed to the scientific foundation of EpilepsyGTx and its gene therapy approach to treating epilepsy.
In his new role, he will oversee scientific strategy and guide development of the company’s pipeline programmes, including its lead candidate EPY201, which is entering first-in-human clinical trials in 2027.
Professor Dimitri Kullmann, Chief Scientific Officer and Co-Founder of EpilepsyGTx, said: “We are making steady progress in developing gene therapies for refractory epilepsy with real clinical potential.”
Nicolas Koebel, Chief Executive Officer of EpilepsyGTx, added: “Dimitri’s transition to CSO marks an important milestone as we advance EPY201 into clinical development. His research and clinical experience remain central to our mission in focal refractory epilepsy.”
