A Smart Wing-Door Safety- Storage Cabinet with Ergonomic Features

Dec 06 2011

For many types of hazardous substances safety cabinets are the best option when it comes to storage. But it’s worth doing some research before purchasing to ensure that the model you buy is suitable for the particular substance(s) to be stored, is quality-assured, and offers ergonomic features.

The Pegasus safety storage cabinet from asecos meets all of these criteria perfectly. The technology employed in this innovative cabinet means both doors can be easily opened using one hand, and they close automatically, without the need for an electrical power supply. This means 60% less manual effort is required, and safety is further enhanced.

Thanks to the asynchronous coupled door-opening mechanism, the doors of the Pegasus can be easily manipulated, even while holding a container. The user does not need to change their grip on the container or change their position relative to the cabinet. Because the doors do not open simultaneously less force is required and the two closed doors do not have to be dealt with at the same time.

An innovative automatic self-closing mechanism means the doors shut automatically after 60 seconds. This is thanks to a combination of different technical processes: a closing spring, with a negative load-deflection curve, ensures not
only that the doors are ex-tremely easy to open but also that they slide safely back into the door seals in the final phase of the closing process; a pneumatic sound-absorption unit guarantees a smooth and quiet closing process; 60 seconds after the doors are opened, a pulse is transmitted to release the catches, so the doors of the safety storage cabinet close automatically without the need for an external electrical power source.

After 55 seconds an acoustic signal indicates that automatic door closing is imminent. The user can intervene in the
closing process at any time and, of course, the cabinet can also be closed manually.

Using the Pegasus cabinet, hazardous substances can be stored in workrooms in com-pliance with BS EN 14470-1 (Type 90 – for example, fire-resistant up to 90 minutes). Optional interior fittings include shelves, or removable drawers, and the cabinet’s storage capacity is up to 235 litres.

Because the cabinet’s operation is purely mechanical it can be used in potentially explosive atmospheres. It is secured via a cylinder lock, and thus can be used with integrated locking systems. There is an air outlet in the cabinet ceiling, and an earth connection is also provided. Stabilisers are available to overcome problems with uneven floors. In case of fire, built-in thermal devises ensure automatic closure of the doors and drawers.
