Brookfield, which began in 1934 with the invention of an instrument for measuring liquid viscosity at different shear rates, has since grown through its reputation for quality and reliability. With its products now specified in many test methods published by Standards Organisations around the world, this employee owned company has enjoyed both success and stability throughout its 80 years.

Employing over 200 people worldwide, Brookfield manufactures, markets, and services a range of laboratory and process instruments used for the measurement and control of flow behaviour of materials and through consultation can determine the appropriate instrument for the measurement needed.

Most of the instruments are manufactured at the company’s Middleboro, Massachusetts, headquarters with distribution in the United States through direct catalogue sales or representatives. Worldwide sales are through Brookfield’s subsidiaries in the United Kingdom, China and Germany and a network of dealers/distributors in more than 50 countries.

Continually developing, the business adheres to a programme that assures compliance to ISO 9000 standards through implementation of a total quality system. The Associated Industries of Massachusetts chose Brookfield for its Manufacturing Excellence award in recognition of its focus on best practices.  The company also received a gold medallion Northeast Shingo Prize – the highest award given to any of the 2005 Northeast challengers.

Texture Analysers and Powder Flow Testers have recently been added to the Viscometer and Rheometer product mix providing additional capability to R&D and QC Departments that formulate and qualify final materials for industrial and consumer use.

Current advances in instrumentation include combining touch screen technology with the world-standard features of the series 0f DV-II Viscometers and DV-III Rheometers.  These instruments, equipped with a modern full color display and capabilities for control and programming, also feature controlled user access and secure data integrity which complies with 21 CFR Part 11.

A recent addition to the product line, the series of RST Touch Screen Rheometers offers capability for single point viscosity for QC or complete flow curve analysis for R&D, operating in both controlled stress and controlled rate modes.
