BBSRC attends UK Biotechnology showcase
At a recent showcase about the success and future of Industrial Biotechnology (IB) in the UK, David Willetts, Minister for Universities and Science, announced £35M of BBSRC funding to boost research in IB and Bioenergy.
The funding will create networks and collaborative research between academia and industry, offering a channel for sustainable economic growth for the UK and new 'green collar' jobs.
Hosted by the Industrial Biotechnology Leadership Forum (IBLF), the 'Leading IB: A UK Showcase Presentation'event in London (Jan 22/23) provided a showcase of UK IB and bio-based products, networking and presentations.
BBSRC's Director of Innovation and Skills, Dr Celia Caulcott, was among the speakers and gave a presentation about Industrial Biotechnology at BBSRC.
Shortly afterwards an additional £5M in funding from the Technology Strategy Board was announced which will fund the creation of an IB Catalyst in 2014.
