EFLM Announces New Young Scientist Award Sponsored by BD to Recognise a Significant Contribution to Improving the Preanalytical Phase

The EFLM (European Federation of Clinical Chemistry & Laboratory Medicine) have announced the call for the new Walter Guder Preanalytical Award sponsored by BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) for the best preanalytical original paper published between 1 January 2013 and 30 April 2014. Applications should be submitted to the EFLM office at [email protected] by 1 May 2014. The Walter Guder Preanalytical Award will be awarded to a young scientist (< 40 years of age) biannually for a significant contribution to the improvement of the preanalytical phase with the first Award being presented at EuroLabFocus in Liverpool, 7-10 October 2014. “EFLM is very pleased to partner with BD on this award, through which we intend to achieve wider recognition of the importance of high quality research in the field of the preanalytical phase among laboratory professionals in Europe”, commented, Professor Mauro Panteghini, EFLM President.

Eligibility criteria include being a member of an EFLM member country. The study must be accepted for peer-reviewed publication by the submission deadline in which the nominee must be the first author. The young scientist who wins this award will receive €5,000 and the costs for attending the scientific conference where the award will be presented.

The applicants should send the reprint of their article or a copy of the editor’s letter indicating final acceptance for publication to the EFLM office at [email protected]. Articles must have been published in English in a peer-reviewed scientific journal, or accepted for publication between 1 January 2013 and 30 April 2014. Applicants should also send a statement signed by all authors of the publication consenting to submission of the paper for the Award and to the conditions of entry. Submissions will be judged by an independent panel of experts. The nominee must be the first author and a member of an EFLM member society. The Award will be presented to the first author, who is responsible for division of the award among his/her co-authors.
