Science World, the Fisher Scientific Laboratory Experience, made a successful debut at Leicester Tigers Rugby Club on 10 October. The event, hosted by Thermo Fisher Scientific, showcased the latest in laboratory innovations available through the Fisher Scientific channel. Thousands of products were available for attendees to experience, making it an ideal event for anyone working in or around a laboratory.

Highlights from Science World included the following keynote speakers: Jamie Gallagher who presented ‘Uncovering the secrets of nanotechnology’, and Hannah Critchlow who talked about ‘How the technological revolution is unravelling the mysteries of the mind’. The event also featured Martin Farley who spoke about ‘LEAF - A New Standard in Sustainable Science’, the Limehurst Sustainability Zone featuring students from a local school who worked in partnership with Thermo Fisher to deliver a Sustainability pledge wall, Sustainability quiz and captured Sustainability video pledges, the chance to win a Sustainable USB charger through digital gamification, a Safety and Cleanroom Solutions Area, Safety seminars, Professor Hal putting on explosive performances in the name of science, behind the scenes tours, kicking challenge and delicious desserts using liquid nitrogen.

Leading the way in serving science, the event attracted 265 delegates from across the UK and brought 43 leading suppliers together.

Stephan Labonté, Vice President, Strategy and Marketing, Fisher Scientific Europe, was particularly impressed by the student sustainability project, commenting, ”We need to be more sensitive in how we consume every day. Whether it’s getting rid of plastics,  re-using things, how we clean things, what kind of detergents we are using, what kind of chemicals we are using … these are the things we  all  need to think of.”
