LGC has announced a global distribution agreement with Life Technologies Corporation for ParaDNA® Products in Forensics and Human ID applications.
This high-speed DNA testing system allows onsite rapid identification of samples that are suitable for submission for more detailed laboratory analysis.
Presently, out of numerous samples collected at a crime scene, many do not provide sufficient information to support the investigative process. ParaDNA indicates, right from the start of an investigation, whether or not these samples contain human DNA, the gender of the contributor and which of these warrant submitting for further lab analysis. This helps to prioritise laboratory time and helping focus resources on reliable lines of inquiry.
Mark Dearden, Business Unit Director, ParaDNA, LGC Forensics, said, “We know that DNA profiling can help establish whether or not there is a link between a suspect and a crime. ParaDNA enables a quick and simple, on-the-spot, presumptive DNA screen to complement submissions policies - and could save significant time and cost in the investigative process. We are delighted that this partnership with Life Technologies will allow us to ‘fast-forward’ those samples most likely to be informative, by placing the technology straight in the hands of investigators.”
Nadia Altomare, head of the Human Identification business for Life Technologies said, “Life Technologies is excited about leading the path toward faster and decentralised DNA analysis. ParaDNA is the latest among a series of innovative products available from Life Technologies that will revolutionise the way law enforcement agencies and crime labs process DNA samples.”
