Filtration Society’s 2013 Conference reported huge Success

Jan 23 2014

More than 80 delegates from several countries attended the most recent of the Filtration Society’s popular two-day technical meetings. ‘Filter Media 6’ was held in Chester, UK, on 5-6 November 2013. The one-day conference on 6 Nov focused on ‘filter media’ and was preceded on 5 November by an educational course on ‘Media for Gas and Liquid Filtration’.

Billed as the most comprehensive introduction to filter media anywhere in the world, the short course was presented by filtration expert Professor Richard Wakeman and consultant engineer Dr Steve Tarleton. Topics covered included woven and non-woven media, yarns and membranes and selection and testing for air and liquid applications.

Science Correspondent and former chairman of The Filtration Society Dr Graham Rideal, was delighted with participants’ responses to the ‘Media for Gas and Liquid Filtration’ course. “Professor Wakeman and Dr Tarleton’s course not only delivered quality technical content but also prompted a fascinating and very informative discussion amongst the delegates,” he said.

The following day, the main ‘Filter Media 6’ conference developed the themes introducing the latest cutting edge technologies. Expert speakers from across the globe delivered key presentations that included industrial microporous filters, slotted filters, and novel ways of introducing functionality into filters. Papers on testing, cleaning and regeneration were also presented.

After delivering a paper entitled ‘Measuring Filter Cut Points and Pore Size Distributions Using Glass Microspheres’ Dr Rideal added, “The Filtration Society has once again shown that it is enormously popular and attracts delegates from around the world. As CEO of Whitehouse Scientific, I and my company are proud to be associated with the Filtration Society and look forward to its 50th anniversary celebrations in 2014.”

Full details of the 2014 conference programme, short course and exhibition, together with registration information, will be available shortly from Filtration Society’s website at www.filtsoc.org.
