Smart, sustainable thermostats for precision temperature control

Lauda Dr. R. Wobser GmbH & Co. KG, global leader in precise temperature control, has unveiled its new Universa product line - an advanced range of bath and circulation thermostats designed for maximum flexibility, performance, connectivity, and sustainability in laboratory and industrial applications.

The Universa line includes three performance tiers - ECO, PRO, and MAX - with a modular design that allows users to combine different baths, control heads, and cooling units to suit their specific needs. Accessories are interchangeable across all models, and bore markings enable custom expansion.

Covering a broad temperature range from -90°C to +300°C, Universa systems offer stability to ±0.01 K, heating up to 3.6 kW, and cooling up to 1.6 kW. Designed for both internal and external applications, they enable fast heating/cooling for improved productivity, reproducibility, and process control across research, pharma, and industrial labs.

“Universa continues the legacy of our original universal thermostat from 1949, while pushing forward with the latest in digital and sustainable engineering,” said Managing Director Dr. Gunther Wobser.

Connectivity is central to the new range. All models feature USB, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi, allowing seamless integration into modern digital labs. The Lauda Command app supports wireless control and monitoring, while optional interface modules - including OPC UA and EtherCAT - enable full IoT integration. Remote diagnostics and data logging are supported via LAUDA.LIVE Services, with AI-assisted optimisation on the horizon.

Sustainability is another core focus. All Universa thermostats use natural refrigerants, each with a charge under 100 grams. Patented, inverter-controlled compressors minimise energy use during partial load operation and ensure quiet, efficient performance - even in entry-level models. A unique ventilation design protects electronics from oil vapours and condensation.

Backed by a 5-year premium warranty, Universa devices are CE- and NRTL-certified and available in international power variants - ready for global deployment.

“With Universa, we’re setting new standards in performance, flexibility, and environmental responsibility,” said Enrico Bossart, Head of Product Management. “It’s a complete solution for the temperature control demands of today and tomorrow.”
