Brabender MT-CA automates moisture testing workflows

10 Jun, 2026

Moisture affects profits long before it becomes visible. It influences storage stability, raw material value, processing behaviour, shelf life, and final product quality. With Brabender MT-CA, Anton Paar provides laboratories and production quality teams with an established automatic moisture tester that brings speed, traceability, and high throughput to routine moisture analysis.

Brabender MT-CA is based on the proven oven drying principle: Samples are weighed, dried in circulating air, and evaluated by loss in weight. The difference is automation. Instead of relying on separate handling steps for weighing, drying, cooling, reweighing, and data transfer, MT-CA integrates precision weighing, controlled drying, automatic post-drying weighing, and result calculation in one workflow.

This helps users reduce operator influence, avoid transcription errors, and accelerate standard-compliant quality control. In a typical workflow, MT-CA can reduce measuring time from around 180 minutes with conventional oven drying processes to approximately 60 minutes, while maintaining reliable results. For laboratories with recurring sample loads, this means faster release decisions, higher productivity, and more consistent documentation.

“Moisture is a business-critical quality parameter because it directly affects product value, process stability, and customer acceptance,” says Christian Witt, Product Manager at Anton Paar. “Brabender MT-CA helps users turn a proven reference principle into a more efficient, automated workflow – with fewer handling steps and traceable results from sample to report.”

MT-CA analyses up to 10 samples simultaneously. Additional samples can be inserted at any time, even while other samples are still drying. This makes the instrument especially valuable for laboratories that handle different materials, drying times, and quality-control priorities in parallel.

The comprehensive methods database provides recommended parameters for around 250 materials, including cereals, flour, tobacco, milk powder, cocoa, coffee, sugar, cement, plaster, polymers, rubber, cellulose, and adhesives. Users can select standard-compliant methods, add custom methods, and create personalised profiles for recurring applications.

Integrated industry-leading Brabender MetaBridge software supports efficient daily work with touchscreen operation, browser-based access, live measurement monitoring, drying curves, user control, and straightforward data handling. Results can be exported in Excel, CSV, and PDF formats, while integration into LIMS or ERP systems is supported via Brabender WebAPI, shared network folders, or OPC UA.

With a measuring range from 0.1% to 99.9% water content, accuracy better than 0.1% water content, balance resolution of 0.001 g, and drying temperatures up to 200°C, the Brabender MT-CA delivers the precision and efficiency required for modern moisture quality control.
