Solid samples, such as powder, granulates and fibers, but also paste-like materials such as cream, sludge or viscous oils can usually be analyzed directly in the graphite tube without any need for sample preparation.

Using contrAA® 600, a High Resolution Continuum Source Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (HR-CS AAS) for graphite tube technology, the sample matrix is digested in the direct solids analysis by the temperature program of the graphite tube furnace. In conjunction with the powerful background correction of the contrAA® 600 almost all elements can be detected with precision in a multitude of materials. The graphite tube technique is subject to few interferences caused by the sample matrix. Therefore, even liquid calibration standards may be used in most cases. A liquid metering unit for automated calibration with liquid standards and the addition of modifiers also allows this application to be used routinely in solids technology.

With the SSA 600 – a fully automated sampler for solids technology – many applications in food analysis, environmental analysis, cosmetics and pharmaceutics and, in particular, in materials analysis or electronics become child’s play. Even the detection of trace elements is usually error-free. The smallest concentrations can be reliably detected without diluting the sample.

Modern high performance materials, such as ceramics, glasses and specific alloys are subject to the highest purity requirements. Even contaminations in the lower mg/kg range can significantly limit the material’s performance for the desired purpose of use. With solids technology a relatively large sample quantity can be analyzed in undiluted form. Therefore it is the routine analysis method with the best detection results for many elements.

In combination with the contrAA® 600, the solids technology is incredibly easy to use and guarantees the highest detection sensitivity. The advantages in combination with the analytical performance of the HR-CS AAS contrAA® 600 are obvious:

  •  Unique simultaneous background correction
  •  Fast, easy and efficient analysis of the original sample
  •  Precise measuring results
  •  Highest sensitivity
  •  Simple routine use
