Laboratory products
In caprolactam production, Nylon-6 manufacturing, and polymer recycling, concentration control is directly linked to process efficiency, material recovery, and final product quality.
Aqueous caprolactam streams occur after extraction and purification, in wash waters, in recovered monomer streams, and during concentration before reuse. If these streams are not monitored accurately, recovery yields can decrease, evaporators may run under unstable conditions, and downstream material can fall out of specification.
For laboratories and production teams, the challenge is to verify caprolactam concentration quickly without adding complexity to routine analysis. Anton Paar’s Abbemat refractometer series provides a practical way to determine concentration by measuring the refractive index of an aqueous ε-caprolactam solution at a defined temperature and applying a concentration calibration. With an Abbemat refractometer, concentration checks are completed within seconds using approximately 1 mL of sample and minimal preparation. This makes it particularly valuable for processes that use inline refractometers, such as Anton Paar’s L-Rix series, for continuous monitoring.
Regular laboratory checks with an Abbemat refractometer provide a precise reference for validating concentration values, verifying measurement stability, and accounting for potential influences from matrix effects, impurities, or changing process conditions.
For day-to-day verification of aqueous caprolactam streams where detailed impurity and oligomer analysis is not required, benchtop Abbemat refractometers offer a low-maintenance alternative to HPLC, titration, or spectroscopy – reducing routine handling effort while still delivering reliable concentration control for defined matrices.
Abbemat can be used in caprolactam production, Nylon-6 manufacturing, and chemical recycling processes. Customised measurement quantities for different temperatures and concentration ranges make it easy to adapt the method to specific process requirements.
