Aston University has signed an agreement with NHMC Investments to establish a new medical education programme at the Anglo Egyptian University in Cairo. The collaboration will deliver undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in medicine, nursing, and allied health sciences, marking the first franchise-style programme awarding Aston degrees in Egypt.
The Anglo Egyptian University will form part of a wider medical complex, including a state-of-the-art hospital, care village for older adults, an international language school, and residential areas. Teaching will begin in September 2027, with Aston providing course content and learning materials, while on-site faculty at AEU deliver the programme, supported virtually and in-person by Aston staff.
The partnership also aims to foster student exchange opportunities and high-impact medical research collaborations, strengthening the development of healthcare professionals in Egypt and the wider MENA region.
Professor Aleks Subic, Vice-Chancellor of Aston University, said:
"This is a historic moment for Aston as we expand our international reach. This programme allows us to train the doctors of the future while sharing our expertise on a global stage."
Dr Naser Fouad, NHMC Chairman, added:
"Graduates from this joint programme will make a real difference to healthcare provision in Egypt and beyond. We see this as the start of a long-term, fruitful collaboration."
