A new report notes the leading role that UK
laboratories play in scientific research on the world stage and calls for public funding of innovative institutions to remain in place.
Research for our Future: UK business success through public investment in research is published by Research Councils UK following collaboration with scientists both in the UK and abroad.
Professor Dave Delpy, impact champion for the organisation, says: "The UK has long been a nation that leads research innovation and this is the key competitive advantage we must preserve.
"It is vital that we continue to produce the best in academic research."
The report argues that public funding for UK
laboratories has a twofold impact due to its direct assistance and the increased investment that follows from the private sector.
Research Councils UK is a partnership group representing the seven UK research councils in arts, biotechnology, engineering, economics, medicine, the natural environment and science.
