The Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) took the opportunity at Pittcon 2011 to highlight some of the emerging technologies developed through collaboration with academic institutes which are available for licencing. Details of selected technologies were open for discussion on the stand, hosted by Takuji Ohinata, Deputy Manager, IP and Licensing Group, Center for Intellectual Property Strategies, at JST in Tokyo. These included items under the categories of New Materials (eg, high water content Hydro-Gel); Sensors; Electronic Devices (eg, high performance thin film transistor); Micro(Nano) Fabrication (eg, gas cluster ion beam equipment); Measuring Equipment; Electron microscope (eg, phaseplate electron miocroscope) and BioTechnology (eg, novel enzymes, immunoassay kits); and other areas. JST, which licenses its own patents also helps universities promote and transfer their patents to the private sector through formulation of IP Strategies and the pursuit of patents.
