Antibody cocktails simplify EV staining and phenotyping

13 Aug, 2025

Biotium has launched its ExoBrite™ CD9/CD63/CD81 Antibody Cocktails, designed to simplify and enhance extracellular vesicle (EV) analysis by flow cytometry. These new cocktails target the three most commonly used EV markers - CD9, CD63, and CD81 - offering researchers bright, reliable staining with minimal optimisation.

Available in single-colour and 3-colour formats, the cocktails provide flexibility for different experimental needs. The single-colour version is ideal for high-coverage EV staining, offered in green, orange, or far-red. The 3-colour cocktail supports multi-marker phenotyping, available in blue/green/far-red or green/orange/far-red combinations, enabling streamlined EV profiling without compromising signal-to-noise quality.

Each antibody in the ExoBrite™ cocktails is optimised for bright, efficient staining, and the low-aggregation formulation reduces background and improves accuracy. By combining three antibodies in one mixture, researchers save both time and reagents while integrating seamlessly into existing flow cytometry workflows.

“Many researchers already stain all three tetraspanins simultaneously,” said Dr Alexis Madrid, head of Biotium’s EV product development group. “Our new cocktails simplify this process while maintaining high performance for EV phenotyping.”

ExoBrite™ cocktails are specifically validated for EV detection, unlike conventional antibodies, ensuring consistent tetraspanin profiling. They can be paired with ExoBrite™ True EV Membrane Stains or EV Surface Stains for multi-parameter analysis. For western blot applications, Biotium also offers fluorescent ExoBrite™ antibodies against CD9, CD63, and CD81 for sensitive detection in EV extracts.
