Automation-ready Ultravap® Mistral XT150 solvent evaporator by PSL

04 Mar, 2026

PSL (Porvair Sciences Limited) has expanded its Ultravap® range with the Ultravap® Mistral XT150, an automation-ready blowdown evaporator designed to remove the solvent evaporation bottleneck in high-throughput sample preparation. Developed for modern laboratory workflows, it delivers reproducible dry-down for microplates and glass tubes (including tubes up to 150 mm), helping laboratories improve turnaround times while protecting sample quality.

Engineered with integration in mind, the Mistral XT150 features a flat-front profile and a platform/plate shuttle that can serve and retrieve plates from a wide range of liquid-handling systems. This supports smoother automation, reduced manual handling, and greater consistency between runs.

Key features of Ultravap® Mistral XT150

  • Automation-friendly design with platform shuttle to support easier interfacing with liquid-handling platforms
  • Consistent heated gas flow (up to 80°C) for faster, more reproducible evaporation across wells and tubes
  • Interchangeable needle heads (24, 48, 96 and 384 formats) plus custom options for different vessel types and throughput needs
  • Compatible with tubes up to 150 mm high
  • Up to 15 programmable methods with precise table movement (0.1 mm increments) and flexible control for repeatable protocols
  • Built-in safety and fume management options, including safety screens and ducted fume removal to support operation in busy labs
  • Eco mode and pause capability for efficient operation and real-time workflow control

Built for high-throughput applications

The Mistral XT150 is particularly suited to labs where solvent evaporation is a frequent step and speed, repeatability, and reduced hands-on time are critical. Typical applications include:

  • Pharmaceutical and biotech sample preparation – concentrating eluates and extracts prior to LC/MS or other analytical methods
  • ADME/Tox and bioanalysis – drying down samples following SPE or protein precipitation workflows to improve sensitivity and consistency
  • Compound library management – concentrating, reformatting and preparing plates for screening, storage, or redistribution
  • Analytical chemistry and QC – solvent removal and concentration of fractions prior to downstream analysis
  • Forensic and environmental testing – drying solvent extracts to support trace-level detection and improve throughput
  • Food and beverage testing – concentrating sample extracts for routine screening and confirmatory analysis

Designed for robot compatibility, the Mistral XT150 integrates into automated workflows to support higher throughput and more standardised sample preparation across teams.
