SeQuant Acquired in Strategic Move

Jun 13 2008

Merck KgaA’s recent acquisition of SeQuant AB (Umea, Sweden), represents a strategically important step for the growth of its chromatography business, bringing its expertise of silica-gel or polymer-based sorbents for ‘zwitterionic hydrophylic interaction chromatography’ (ZICR –HILIC) and ion chromatography into Merck’s
product portfolio.
“We are pleased to have made this acquisition. It offers Merck superb
opportunities for the future expansion of the chromatography business” said Klaus Bischoff, Head of Performance & Life Science Chemicals division at Merck. “By acquiring SeQuant we are gaining access to a unique technology in the rapidly growing HILIC application segment for analytical and preparative purposes. This technology will enable us to develop and commercialise innovative products that meet the needs of
our customers,” he added. Renamed Merck SeQuant AB, the previous site and all employees of the former company have been retained.
