Scientists and laboratory workers are going to be crucial for the UK employment market over the next few years.

This is the opinion of Labour MP for Stafford David Kidney, who said his organisation is looking to boost opportunities in this sector.

"We will be directing more help towards companies in areas where there is going to be growth in jobs; such as ... the life sciences, " he explained.

Other areas highlighted for expansion included the manufacturing and low-carbon industries.

According to Mr Kidney, the emphasis on life sciences is due to it being predicted as an increasingly important part of the British economy.

Labour is looking to raise the number of "good-quality jobs", he added, meaning there will be more vacancies for jobseekers in these particular areas.

Last month, the government announced a new life sciences lab is to be launched in London, with the £250 million facility set to be based at St Pancras.
