International Award for Dundee Embryologist

Dec 05 2011

A University of Dundee scientist has been named as the winner of an international research prize recognising his outstanding contribution to reproductive biomedicine. Dr Steve Tardif from the Centre for Oncology and Molecular Medicine travelled to Iran in September to take part in the 12th Congress on Reproductive Biomedicine, where he was presented with the Royan International Research Award for his work in the field of embryology. He also received prize money of $5000 and delivered a lecture on his research into sperm-egg interaction and its relationship with male infertility.

The Royan Institute is an infertility clinic and research facility in Tehran, which has established itself as one of the leading centres of infertility study. The Royan International Research Award was founded by Dr Saeid Kazemi Ashtiani,
the late director of the institute, to recognise the efforts of researchers. This annual award is a prize given to five
prominent research projects in the field of reproductive biomedicine, stem cell biology and technology, and other
related subjects.
