GL Sciences has released an upgrade to their CryoFocus 4. Cryogenic cold trapping is a technique where part of a column is cooled down to temperatures down to -150°C. Analytes are focused at the head of the column by cooling its selected section to sub-ambient temperature. Analytes that might normally not be retained, can now be trapped. This refocussing within the cryo-trap will result in sharper peaks on your chromatogram.

Using the same technique as in the OPTIC instrument, the CryoFocus has a highly accurate and very fast heating ramp, up to 60°C/sec. The temperature range is limited to 350°C so that it can operate within the temperature limits of GC capillary columns. With a fast heating cryo-trap, better detection limit and better resolution can be seen on the detector.

The dosing of the liquid nitrogen to the trap is done using a valve. The sound made by such valve can be an intense presence in a laboratory. The latest CryoFocus update released includes a silent version of the valve, while improving control over the lower temperatures. The silent CryoFocus 4 upgrade is supplied with all new systems, but also available as an upgrade to your existing system. Another great example where GL Sciences upgrades their instruments not only to guarantee the highest quality, but to also provide the best user experience.
