Brevis GC-2050 – Small but mighty
Apr 29 2025
Compact without compromise
Laboratory space is very cost-intensive to set up and maintain, and the number of analyses that can be performed simultaneously is often limited by the available bench space. The new Shimadzu GC-2050 addresses this challenge by combining low space requirements with high analytical performance. Small enough that a typical laboratory table can accommodate several units, the GC-2050 allows the simultaneous operation of two analytical lines with standard capillary columns.
With this second release step, the GC-2050 is now “fully loaded”. The enhancements offer flexible configurations, enabling the Brevis GC-2050 to cover a wide range of applications. In response to the growing demand in the Green Transformation (GX) field, the newly designed Single Filament Thermal Conductivity Detector (STCD) sets new benchmarks for sensitivity and stability, all within a significantly smaller design compared to previous models.
Flexible configuration for versatile applications
Leveraging nearly 70 years of GC technology, Shimadzu offers a total of seven products with flexible combination options.
Automatic Gas Analysis System:
The new GI-30 gas sampler is a space-saving solution for simple gas analysis. In combination with the new STCD, it provides an easy solution for sensitive measurement of permanent gases and gaseous organic compounds.
Jetanizer/Polyarc Microreactor System:
The Jetanizer is a 3D-printed FID jet equipped with a catalyst for methanation. This innovative design enables the measurement of not only hydrocarbons but also carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and formic acid using a standard FID detector.
The Polyarc microreactor simplifies GC calibration by converting all components eluting from the capillary column into methane, which is then detected by an FID. This eliminates the need to calibrate each individual component, as a single response factor can be applied to all elements in the sample.
Headspace Sampler System:
The HS-20 NX headspace sampler works seamlessly with the Brevis GC-2050, enabling precise analysis of volatile compounds in both liquids and solids. Featuring an ultra-short transfer line, advanced deactivation, and an innovative isolation-gas-flow system, it sets new benchmarks for reproducibility and ultra-low carryover in headspace analysis.
Analytical Intelligence
World’s first CO2 Reduction Visualization Function:
The “ECO Idling Function” is an innovative feature that learns analysis patterns and proposes operation schedules based on workload. This feature seamlessly integrates and automatically activates several Analytical Intelligence features, significantly reducing gas and electric power consumption during standby periods. Additionally, the software’s CO2 reduction visualization function offers valuable insights into cost and CO2 savings achieved through these gas and electricity reductions.
Clean Pilot function:
After extended standby periods of the GC-2050, the Clean Pilot function automatically performs column conditioning. This ensures more stable analytical results while reducing the workload for laboratory staff.
Automatic maintenance:
The GC-2050 streamlines frequent maintenance tasks, such as liner exchanges, saving you valuable time. With the press of a maintenance button, the system automatically cools down. A built-in maintenance guide assists you through each step of the process. Once the maintenance is complete, the GC performs an automated leak check and notifies you when it is ready for the next measurements.
